NaPoWriMo Day 10 - A Letter

I’m now on holiday for a week and feeling a lot less motivated to write each day so the quality of the poems (already questionable) will probably get worse.

Today’s prompt was to write a letter.

A letter of apology to the locals in The Padstow Inn specifically between the months of April and August

Having turned our noses up at Rick Stein’s

we appear blinking

in the doorway

with our rucksacks and sunglasses

take a window seat

for the plug socket.

I can see how much you hate us

and we really are the worst

the kind that don’t stick to Café Rouge

and Pizza Express

but go off the beaten track

in search of somewhere authentic.

We’ve been round every ethical jewellery

and handmade soap shop

perused the windows of Joules and Sea Salt

successfully bought nothing

at the indoor craft market

and local seascapes in watercolour gallery

taken the obligatory ice cream in the harbour shot

hold it up.

Now in your pub

gawping at the Cornish memorabilia

putting too much effort in to reading

a framed list

of all the ships insured in Padstow

in 1856

half heartedly writing a poem about this

and eating a freshly caught

crab salad.
