New Book, Workshops and the Burning Books Tour
Burning Books (the book) published by Burning Eye Books
This has been a year coming so I was really excited this week when my first batch of copies of Burning Books turned up (after a short stop off with the man who works in the corner shop due to a UPS delivery mess up). I'm so rarely proud of myself, it's a really nice feeling to see some poems which have so far only existed in notebooks and my head in a proper book. I keep picking it up and looking at it, some times at odd times of the day and night. If you would like one you can buy them on the 'shop' page on my website.
Everybody's Reading Workshops
I'm runing two workshops as part of Everybody's Reading in Leicester in a couple of weeks. They're completely free but you have to let me know if you're coming so I know whether to prepare for 2 or 200. You can email me on email@example.com
Find The Right Words Performance Poetry Workshop
A performance poetry workshop for 14 – 18 year olds exploring how to take a poem from being an idea in a notebook to being performed on the stage. During this workshop I will help participants to develop pieces that draw on their own experiences. As well as writing there will be an opportunity to share work and practise performance skills (but this won’t be compulsory!). This workshop is for anyone who is interested in writing, whether they’re a complete beginner or a well-practised pro.
Over 55s Poetry Workshop A free workshop for anyone over 55 with an interest in writing poetry, whether you’re a regular writer or you’ve never put pen to paper creatively before. The morning will consist of short activities and writing exercises designed to help participants draw on their own experiences and look at how they can use these to tell their own stories through poetry. Paper and pens will be provided. You may want to come a little early to grab a cup of tea!
Burning Books National Tour continues in Margate
Above are the faces of two very happy musicians after a successful gig at the Roundhouse (which was one we were quite nervous for!). The tour continues (despite my sore throat and tankard of Lemsip) this Saturday at the Tom Thumb Theatre in Margate. I know very little about Margate apart from the fact that my Gran used to live down the road and my Dad is baffled that it has become trendy and cool so I'm really looking forward to it. If you want to come you can buy tickets here and I promise not to share my cold with you.

Everybody's Reading Festival in Leicester
I mentioned Everybody's Reading above. They're a really good festival in Leicester who promote events that encourage reading around the city. This month's Find The Right Words is happening in collaboration with them (more on that next week) and there are loads of other things happening during the festival week too - think workshops, performances, book groups, talks. Their website is www.everybodysreading.co.uk

All Writers Are Liars
Leicester writer Alison Dunne put a Monologue Night call out on Facebook this week:
We are looking for six 5 - 10 minute monologues for a new Leicester monologue night (between 3 and 4 pages of script). We'd like Leicester(ish)-based writers to send us their monologues on the theme of 'Truth or Lies' by the 2nd of October. We are looking for stories which may be either truth or lies but we don't want to know which they are. We'll be asking the audience to decide. Scripts are preferred that need minimum tech and props. The first performances will be in early December and will be Pay What You Decide with revenue being split between all artists involved. Writers please send your 5 - 10 minute monologues to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 2nd October. Scripts will be selected by Friday 16th October. We also welcome expressions of interest from actors who would like to take part.

Session For Syria - Duffy's Bar, Leicester
After the success of the food bank gig a few weeks ago, Duffy's have organised another benefit gig to raise money for the UN Refugee Agency. It's on Friday 25th September at 7pm and me, Dave and Scott are going to be playing some bits from Burning Books.
